Journalists: Sleuths without the Badge

Two crime drama series from Finland are now available in the U.S. and demonstrate that police officers aren’t the only ones looking into criminal investigations. The first is Helsinki Syndrome, about a group of journalists in Finland taken hostage and forced to investigate allegations of financial corruption. It’s available in on Prime Video and through the Roku Channel. The second Finnish drama is Enemy of the People, now available on MHz Choice. In Enemy, a journalist's story about a local football hero leads to a web of deceit and corruption and makes her a target.

Here are some other crime dramas from Europe that feature a journalist as protagonist and investigator.

Dicte

Set in Denmark, this series follows a crime reporter who has moved back to her hometown of Aarhus with her teenage daughter and works with the police on solving crimes. Thirty episodes are available on Prime Video and the Roku Channel.

Mammon

Pakt

This Polish remake of Mammon is highly rated; two seasons (12 episodes) are available on Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Play.
